McGill study on power transients barred by Hydro-Quebec

Hydro-Quebec is a Canadian electric utility sponsored a Canadian-French epidemiological study on powerlines. "I can't use the data anymore" said Dr. Gilles Theriault who led the project. "..at the beginning they were very pleased to have the HFT data, but in the middle of the study they did not want to use it anymore" Theriault said. Hydro-Quebec replies "All the data belongs to the utilites and there is no mandate to start a new analysis". The Hydro-Quebec officials are furious about the paper published in November by the McGill team that shows an up-to-tenfold increased risk of lung cancer for exposure for high frequence transients.

Theriault told Micro Wave news "The HFT observation deserves the attention of my scientific colleagues". Dr. Anders Ahlbom of the Karolinska Institute, Stckholm, Sweden, expressed his concern "Clearly, if the HFT-cancer link is true, it makes a big difference to public health because lung cancer is a very common disease."
